Team Zambia Stuns the Chess World at the 2010 Chess Olympiad

The 2010 Chess Olympiad took place from September 21st until October 3rd in Khanty-Mansiysk, Russia. 148 countries sent their best chess players to battle for national pride and personal glory. In the end, Team Ukraine placed first just ahead of the super power Russian Team. This was Ukraine’s second championship since splitting from the Soviet Union. The biggest surprise of the tournament was the incredible performance from the Zambian chess team. Zambia came into the tournament ranked 121/148 and finished the event in 47’th place. Zambia had only one titled player and two unrated players on their team. Congratulation Team Zambia on finishing ahead of many grandmaster packed teams!
