United States G/30 National Chess Championship

California is set to host the U.S. G/30 Chess Championship on October Second, 2011. Having a U.S.C.F. National Championship in the Bay Area is a rare treat and many of my chess students are eager to win another national title. I will report live from the Santa Clara Convention Center and provide complete coverage of this exciting chess tournament.

United States G/60 National Chess Championship

The Bay Area will be hosting the U.S. G/60 Chess Championship on October First, 2011. It is a rare pleasure to have a U.S.C.F. National Championship located in Northern California and many of my students look forward to this extra opportunity to add to their credentials. Tomorrow, I will report live from the Santa Clara Convention Center with a special emphasis on Northern California’s best chess juniors.

National Elementary Chess Championship: Round 4 Update

California’s Ben Rood and Milind Maiti remain undefeated after four rounds of competition at the 2011 National Elementary Chess Championships. First grader Ben Rood is the highest rated player in the k-1 section with a rating above 1600! Kindergartener Milind Maiti, who is likely the best player his age in the United States, easily defeated a 1500 rated player in round 4. Both of the young combatants were confident and happy going into round 5.

2011 Calchess Scholastic State Championships: Preview 2

Students at Collins Elementary School in Cupertino, California spent Tuesday afternoon preparing for the 2011 Calchess Scholastic State Championships. Coach Chris Torres played competitive games against many members of the Collins chess team. He was very impressed with third grader Sayesha Chaudhary and fourth grader Aryan Dawra. Both of these young players will be playing in their first State Chess Championships this weekend. Sayesha will also be competing in her first rated tournament.
